The dream of land ownership is deeply rooted in our history, culture, and personal aspirations. However, the journey towards this goal can feel overwhelming. Historically, owning land meant food security, protection, and a sense of belonging. Today, the dream of owning land offers other benefits.
Benefits of land ownership:
- Investment: Land continues to be a safe and valuable investment.
- Freedom: Land ownership offers freedom from the constraints of neighborhood HOA’s, privacy, and nosy neighbors.
- Legacy: Land is a gift to pass down to future generations providing a sense of family identity.
- Hobby Farms: We have personally enjoyed expanding our farm with several cows, goats, horses, ducks, and chickens. Spending time with the animals is a great distraction from the hectic pace of life today.

How do you approach the dream of land ownership, when land options seem scarce and the prices are high?
1. If you’ve been thinking about purchasing land for a while, make a firm decision that you will take actionable steps in this direction. Clarify the amount of acreage you want to start with. We started with just 8 acres, then 15, and have added more over the years.
2. Look for creative ways to make your purchase. Could you partner with a family member or friend? Could you sell your home in the city limits for the same amount as a house with land in the county? (We have some specific examples of current listings that offer this opportunity. Call us to learn more).
3. Be patient. Acquiring land might be a process. You can love where you live knowing that it might be a work in progress and take some time to develop.
4. Talk to friends, family members, lenders, and realtors who have successfully made the leap to land ownership. If you get the right team together, it’s often much more doable than you think. We would love to brainstorm with you to discover options to help you move forward in your goals.
